Newburyport, Mass. – Rochester Electronics helps buyers and designers with the end-of-life (EOL) management of their critical semiconductor devices. As part of its product lifecycle management (PLM) services program, the authorized manufacturer and distributor of semiconductors helps OEMs manage their semiconductor bill of materials (BOM) from product design to maintenance, repair, and operation (MRO) of equipment.
"Companies contact Rochester every day because they are unable to source a semiconductor device that was designed into their equipment while the component was still in active production," said George Karalias, director of marketing communication for Rochester Electronics LLC, in a statement. "Customers are facing the costly decision of redesigning an entire system to accommodate one single component. Our combined role as a manufacturer as well as a distributor enables us to provide direction at the initial design-in phase on through to providing an ongoing supply of devices for as long as they are needed."
Rochester partners with more than 60 original semiconductor manufacturers to ensure that EOL inventory comes directly from the factory and is stored, handled and shipped to supplier specifications to help buyers and designers source parts for repair and maintenance. As a manufacturer, Rochester ensures availability of product by re-manufacturing or re-creating EOL devices.
Karalias said original component manufacturers (OCMs) are including companies such as Rochester in their PLM service solutions. Rochester will purchase EOL inventory; re-manufacture EOL parts, and re-create EOL devices with suppliers' full authorization to ensure that their customers have a stable supply of key semiconductor components for ongoing MRO.
The best time to prepare for EOL is before a component becomes obsolete, said Rochester. In this way, new product development teams can select the best devices for their applications, and ensure availability of supply in the future.
"We've seen the difficulty our customers have when sourcing EOL parts," Karalias stated. "For that reason, Rochester is providing PLM services in advance."
