The Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) announces the release of an industry guideline for Certificates of Conformance for Commercial Electronic Parts. The guideline was developed to address a customer’s request for traceabilty records. It identifies the need for and outlines the requirements of an Authorized Distributor Certificate of Conformance.
The authorized distributors of electronic parts are committed to supplying the industry with original component manufacturers’ parts and providing full manufacturer warranties and associated support. Authorized distributors understand the obligation to maintain documented traceability records that demonstrate an unbroken chain of ownership from the original component manufacturer through the authorized supply chain to the customer. Some customers are asking for Manufacturers’ Certificates of Conformance for commercial parts. This request adds cost, delivery delays, and complexity to the supply chain. The authorized distributor certificate of conformance satisfies the traceability requirements while simplifying the supply chain process.
A committee of ECIA members has worked diligently to provide input on this issue of tracebility. ECIA distributor members support the practice of providing an Authorized Distributor Certificate of Conformance as an integral part of packing lists with each order. This guideline was created by a committee from the ECIA Components Council with the following companies contributing to its development: Arrow Electronics, Avnet, Digi-Key Corp., Future Electronics, Mouser, Murata, Phoenix Contact, Sager Electronics, TE Connectivity, TTI, Inc., and Vishay.
About ECIA The Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) was formed in 2011 by uniting the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA) and the Electronic Components Association (ECA). ECIA members are involved in the development of industry guidelines, EIA technical standards and unique component market statistics reports. The association is a steadfast advocate for the authorized sale of electronic components and operates an exclusive inventory search site for authorized product: www.ECIAauthorized.com. ECIA unites all segments of the electronic components industry in these efforts: manufacturers, authorized distributors and manufacturers representatives.
