The Dielectric Laboratories (DLI) facility of Knowles Capacitors offers a line of gain equalizers designed to compensate for module gain slope. Delivering repeatable microwave performance to compensate for gain roll-off and VSWR mismatch losses, the 0302 size EW Series devices are a good match to a 50ῼ line width for optimal broadband performance, said Knowles. This is achieved by using precision thin-film fabrication, coupled with DLI’s high permittivity ceramic materials.
DLI gain equalizers use a monolithic construction with a precision thin-film conductor and resistor films together with proprietary high dielectric constant ceramics, which is said to provide superior RF performance repeatability. The integrated R and C values produce the desired gain slope. The miniature thin-film gain equalizers provide a microwave frequency response which is so close to ideal that it can be modeled by the simple parallel R-C circuit, according to the company.
Applications for the gain equalizers include broadband microwave modules and EW, ECM, ECCM applications. They also can be used as a compensation circuit to correct for loss slope created by other circuit elements, such as amplifiers.
The 0302 size EW Series provides slope correction from DC to 18 GHz of greater than 3 dB. Six slopes are available and are footprint interchangeable for optimizing module gain flatness from 1 to 3.5 dB. The solderable terminations are compatible with solder SMT & conductive epoxy assembly and pick and place equipment. No ground connection is required.
Availability: The EW series is available in tape and reel packaging for high volume applications. Engineering kits are available with all six slope part types.
