Aliso Viejo, Calif. -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today introduced the first product in its new Timberwolf family. Powered by Microsemi's AcuEdge™ acoustic technology, the ZL38040 delivers best-in-class high definition (HD) voice communication solutions for the enterprise hands-free speakerphone markets.
Microsemi's ZL38040 is a new device with an advanced wideband acoustic echo canceller designed to provide leading-edge echo cancellation and noise reduction for HD audio speaker phone and IP phone applications. Microsemi's patented AcuEdge firmware and its acoustic echo canceller permit significantly more audio information to be transmitted while blocking interfering signals such as echo and background noise.
AcuEdge's technology consists of license-free, royalty-free audio IP solutions. It is the compilation of various intellectual properties targeted at processing voice signals in conjunction with noise reduction algorithms, automatic gain control, echo cancellation, psychoacoustic noise reduction, howling detection and rejection. These powerful capabilities are the foundation for enterprise level automatic speech recognition, sound classification and other intelligent decision-making functions based on sound and audio detection.
"Our second-generation family of voice processing solutions takes our AcuEdge acoustic technology to the next level, catering to today's most demanding enterprise hands-free and voice market applications," said Roger Holliday, senior vice president and general manager, communications product group at Microsemi. "These world-class solutions bring significant feature benefits to the emerging hands-free audio/voice market, enabling designers to develop pioneering applications that perform reliable communication based on audio intelligence."
To complement the ZL38040 hardware and AcuEdge software, Microsemi provides a comprehensive development package to accelerate customers' time-to-market via a validated reference design and easy-to-use tools that include MiTuner™, an automated AEC tuning kit. The Microsemi AcuEdge solution has been tested on customer platforms that meet TIA, ETSI and ITU standards, enabling the ZL38040 to achieve design-in success with tier-one OEMs in targeted enterprise markets.
The new capabilities afforded by Microsemi's ZL38040 are important advancements to meet the increasing demand for IP phones and enterprise hands-free communication. According to Infonetics Research, worldwide IP desktop hardware phone shipments reached about 27.1 million units in 2013, with projected growth of 10.6 percent CAGR from 2013-2018 as more businesses migrate to IP and require corresponding endpoints.
"Microsemi's new AcuEdge acoustic solutions will enable OEMs developing new hands-free audio- and voice-related products to build advanced IP phones that meet the exact requirements of enterprise applications for high-quality voice and video," said Diane Myers, principal analyst, Infonetics Research.
