PHOENIX — As Apple announced record sales of 10 million iPhone 6 units in the first three days of the product's launch, it often begged the question, “what happens to all the old phones?” The answer isn't always pretty as e-waste around the globe grows. Arizona citizens seeking a safe and responsible way of disposing of their old electronics, have the opportunity to participate in Technology Recycling Day on Saturday, October 4, from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., sponsored by the Arizona Technology Council Foundation and supported by Data Doctors and Westech Recyclers.
Electronic products are made from valuable resources and materials, including metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. Donating or recycling electronics conserves our natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing virgin materials.
“Every time an Arizona citizen diverts electronic waste from ending up in landfills is a reason to celebrate,” said Steven Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. “We began this program to fill the need for simple and convenient electronic recycling options and we're proud to continue this valuable service that contributes to a healthier environment for us all.”
