Cork, Ireland -- Excelsys Technologies recently introduced the XS500 series of high-efficiency, 500-watt (W) convection-cooled AC/DC power supplies. Offering typical efficiency of 92 percent, and operating from 90-264 VAC, the XS500 delivers 500-W of output power without the need for forced-air cooling. The component temperatures within the XS500 are kept to a minimum with a combination of low-energy-loss topologies and high-efficiency design, according to the company. The increased reliability and service life is backed by a five-year warranty.
Applications for the XS500 include motors, pumps, fans, compressors, and capacitor banks with loads requiring very high instantaneous transient current delivery capabilities beyond 500 W at startup that tends to last for extended periods of time, said the company. The units are suitable for medical systems that stipulate low audible noise, including a wide range of industrial, laboratory and high-reliability applications.
The XS500 models are available with nominal outputs of 24V/21A and 48V/10.5A. The wide-voltage adjustment range of the series can accommodate non-standard system voltages via the on-board potentiometer and Vtrim functions. Standard protection features and control signals include remote on/off, power fail, remote sense, current limit adjustment, as well as overvoltage, over-current and over-temperature protection.
The Excelsys XS500 carries dual safety certification, EN60950 2nd Edition, for industrial applications and EN60601-1 2nd and 3rd Edition for medical applications, which means the power supplies meet stringent creepage and clearance requirements. The series also provides input to output isolation of 4 KVAC, which allows hi-pot testing to be conducted on the complete power supply, which simplifies system safety agency approvals, said the company. The XS500 is also qualified for 2 x MOPP (two Means of Patient Protection) and <300 uA leakage current, making it suitable for use in B (Body) and BF (Body Floating) types of medical applications.
Designed to meet MIL810G, the XS500 series is also compliant with SEMI F47 for voltage dips and interruptions, and is compliant with all relevant EMC emission and immunity standards. Designed for use in hostile environments, the XS500 can withstand input surges of 4 KV and has been characterized to MIL461F with an external EMI filter for hi-rel/defense applications. Optional features include I2C digital communications and OR-ing function for N+1 redundancy. The power supplies can also be conformal coated and ruggedized for use in harsh environments.
