SynQor has added two higher power DC-DC converters to its RailQor line. These new converters triple the usable power in the quarter-brick footprint to 150 W, and increase the power capability by five times to 252 W in the half-brick package. These ruggedized board-mountable and isolated DC-DC converters use synchronous rectification to achieve power conversion efficiencies up to 91 percent at full load and 93 percent at 50 percent load, while still maintaining 80 percent or greater efficiency at light load. Each module is supplied encased with an aluminum baseplate to provide protection from harsh environments.
The quarter- and half-brick fixed switch frequency converters are available in four different input voltage ranges: 9-36 V, 42-110 V, 66-160 V and 12-155 V. There is a selection of standard output voltages (5, 12, 15, 24 V) and power levels (up to 252 W) that make the RailQor line suitable for a variety of systems in locomotive and railway electronics.
The RailQor DC-DC converters permit an operating baseplate temperature range of -40°C to +100°C. These converters will deliver maximum output power with minimal to no derating as long as the baseplate is maintained at 100°C or below. Designers should consult the derating charts available in the datasheets for specific application environments, said SynQor.
The RailQor converters are designed to address EU EN50155 standard requirements for “Railways Applications Electronic Equipment Used on Rolling Stock”. The use of fixed switching frequency technology provides predictable EMI performance, which greatly simplifies filtering design, said SynQor.
Key features include on/off control referenced to the input side, remote sense for the output voltage and an output voltage trim range of -20% to +10%, and fully 6/2 RoHS compliant. Protection features include input under-voltage lockout, output current limit and short circuit protection, active back bias limit, output over-voltage protection and thermal protection. All models have at least 1000 Vdc, 100 Mohm REINFORCED input-to-output isolation and calculated mean time between failure (MTBF) values in excess of 1 MHrs.
Availability: The RailQor product line is available for evaluation and qualification. Delivery for production quantities is eight weeks.
