Greenville, S.C. – AVX Corporation has claimed the highest Q 01005 multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) available for ultra-high frequency (UHF) band applications (300 MHz–3 GHz). The first part number in the new CU Series of ultra-low equivalent series resistance (ESR) MLCCs, the CU10 01005 MLCC, exhibits typical Q values of 290 at 1 GHz for a 4-pF capacitance, which makes it suitable for reducing power consumption and improving battery efficiency in high frequency power amplifier circuits within multifunctional and multiband RF communication devices. These include smartphones, tablets, handheld scanners, camera sensor modules, and telecommunications equipment.
The CU Series of COG (NPO) MLCCs feature low-resistance internal copper electrodes and interior structures that have been carefully optimized to reduce resistance, said AVX. In addition to the low ESR, the series also exhibits highly accurate and evenly distributed capacitances ranging from 0.5 pF to 22 pF, which, together, effectively mitigates impedance mismatching between circuits and subsequently preserves both power and battery life, added the company.
The 01005 CU10 MLCCs are available in 16-V ratings and capacitance values ranging from 0.5 pF to 22 pF. The operating temperature range is -55°C to +125°C. The devices are lead-free compatible and RoHS compliant, and are supplied with plated Ni/Sn terminations on both 4-mm and 8-mm 7” reels.
Availability: Lead time for the CU10 is 12 weeks. The second part number, the CU01 0201 MLCC, is expected to be introduced later this year.
