Munich, Germany – Infineon Technologies AG has launched the HITFET+ family of protected low-side switches as a replacement for electromechanical relays (EMRs). Key features of the HITFET+ family (High Integrated Temperature protected MOSFET) include diagnosis function, digital status feedback, short-circuit robustness, controlled slew rate adjustment for balancing switching losses and EMC compliance. Target applications include automotive and industrial.
The HITFET+ family will be comprised of at least 16 devices with a variety of R DS(on) (10 to 800 mOhm), features (i.e. with and without status feedback), and package size (D-PAK with 5 or 3 pins, DSO with 8 pins). HITFET+ products are completely scalable, eliminating the need for system designers to change either software or PCB layout to drive various loads, said the company.
In automotive applications, the HITFET+ products can drive solenoids for valve control with pulse width modulation (PWM) up to 20 kHz. They can be used in automotive light dimming applications where they prevent flickering and support the typical current intensities of 10 W to 60 W. The product family also is suitable for a range of other automotive applications such as mid-size and small-size electric motor drives for door lock or parking brake, injection valves for alternative fuel (LPG, CNG), flaps driving in heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), rear wheel steering applications as well as safety relay replacement in active suspension systems.
The HITFET+ products are also suitable as protected drivers in a wide area of industrial applications such as printers, vacuum cleaners, solar power modules, and vending machines.
The first product in the family – the BTF3050TE - is able to switch all kinds of resistive, inductive and capacitive loads. Key features include a latching digital status feedback, easy slew rate control, over-temperature shutdown and thermal auto-restart. Other protection features include active clamp over-voltage protection, electrostatic discharge (ESD), current limitation and overload protection.
Designed to replace electromechanical relays and discrete circuits, the BTF3050TE is suitable for industrial applications and is optimized for 12-V automotive applications. With a RDS(on) of 40 mOhm (typical 25°C) it can drive loads up to 3A in typical automotive body environments. The BTF3050TE is automotive qualified.
Availability: The BTF3050TE in a leadfree TO-252 package (D-PAK 5-pin) is available in high volume. Additional HITFET+ products are scheduled for launch towards the end of year 2015.
