Utrecht, The Netherlands – GreenPeak Technologies recently launched a multi-protocol chipset that supports both ZigBee and Thread networks. Not only does it help to future-proof IoT solutions, it also significantly reduces costs when designing set-top boxes and gateways. The company touts the new GP712 as the industry’s first single radio multi-protocol chipset with multi-channel receive capability for set-top boxes, gateways, and other advanced IoT devices.
ZigBee is considered the dominant communication technology for wireless sensor networks with Thread quickly becoming a prevailing player in the same IoT communication space, said GreenPeak. This means application developers and device manufacturers need a future-proof solution that can combine both communication protocols for connected home applications, added the company.
The GP712 enables “devices to support multiple protocols in normal operation, or to create a single SKU (stock keeping unit) that determines the type of protocol used in the consumer’s home at the time of installation instead of as a factory selection,” said the company.
The GP712 features GreenPeak’s patented antenna diversity solution to optimize the received signal quality, and multi-channel receive feature that allows simultaneous listening for both ZigBee and Thread packets using a single radio. In addition, the company said it improved its frequency agility mechanism to provide enhanced co-existence of the various applications with other 2.4-GHz wireless communication systems.
The GP712 is available in a small footprint 24-pin QFN package.
