Bosch Sensortec claims the industry’s first custom programmable 9-axis motion sensor. The BMF055 includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and an Atmel SAMD20 32-bit Cortex M0+ microcontroller in a single package. The high functionality device is housed in a 5.2 x 3.8 x 1.1 mm3 package.
The Software Development Package enables easy customization for different application requirements, enabling customers to develop their own application-specific firmware for the sensor without the need for an additional application processor, the company said. It includes a precompiled BSX Lite fusion library with integration guidelines, API source files for individual sensors and example projects as a plugin for Atmel Studio. The Atmel tool chain can be downloaded from Atmel’s website.
The BMF055 is suited for customers who are developing advanced application-specific sensor fusion algorithms, adding sophisticated motion sensing capabilities, and replacing multiple discrete components with a single package, said Bosch Sensortec. Target market segments include robotics, gaming, remote controls, navigation systems, drones, and human interface devices for Internet of Things (IoT) projects.
“The BMF055 sensor from the ASSN family is ideal for applications such as robotics, drones, gaming and navigation systems, which need a customized system-in-package solution,” said Dr. Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO and general manager, Bosch Sensortec, in a statement. “By providing a comprehensive software development package, we are enabling our customers to create highly-customized sensor systems that meet their exact application requirements.”
