Riverside, Calif. – Bourns, Inc. expanded its AC surge protective device (SPD) line with two new heavy duty models that meet the latest Underwriters Laboratories’ (UL) 1449 safety and performance standard. Model 1251 and Model 1252 high-performance hybrid SPDs offer reliable transient protection for power distribution systems.
Model 1251 is a Type 1 SPD designed to be installed on the line side of the main service disconnect, while Model 1252 is a Type 2 SPD designed for the load side of the main service disconnect. Both series support either 120/208 three-phase wye or single phase 120/240 VAC circuits. Model 1252 also features noise mitigation filtering capabilities.
The Bourns Hybrid SPD (H-SPD) designs combine metal oxide varistor (MOV) and gas discharge tube (GDT) technologies to deliver fast-acting and low leakage performance over the life of the SPD, said the company. The devices are rated at 50 kA on a single 8/20 µs surge.
The latest H-SPDs are offered in NEMA 4X enclosures making them robust solutions for both indoor and outdoor installations, Bourns said. Wiring options include a 20-inch, 12-gauge wiring stub that exits either the right side or rear of the protector. Both series offer thermal disconnect safety features as well as visual LED and audio alarm indicators in the event of a system or device failure.
Availability: The RoHS-compliant devices are available now.
Pricing: As a pricing reference, the Model 1251 and 1252 Series are list priced at $195.00 each.
