Atlanta, Ga. - Distributors reported component sales in North America for Q2 CY2016 up 1.8% compared to the previous quarter. This follows a 2.4% growth quarter on quarter in Q1 CY2016. Sales of interconnect products were up 1.7% quarter on quarter, sales of passive components were up slightly at 0.4%, sales of semiconductors up 1.4% with growth mainly coming from embedded processing and analog to include sensors. Electromechanical products were up 5% with strong growth from power supplies and sensors, and displays were up 5.0%. Book to Bill for the quarter was basically flat compared to a strong book to bill last quarter of 1.12. Comparing Q2 CY2016 to Q2 CY2015, total sales were down 1.6%. Interconnect down 1.2%, passives down 1.4%, semiconductors down 1.2%, electromechanical down 6.2% and displays up 1.3%.
The distribution channel has experienced nice improvement in sales for the first two quarters of 2016, along with a positive book to bill. The improvements were across all market segments with the strongest growth coming from aerospace, medical and the automation related sectors of the industrial market. Market trends are still uncertain; however the North America market is not bad and leading indicators point to an improving market in the second half of the year.
