Mouser Electronics, Inc. today announced that its European business is now producing nearly one third of the company’s sales and is still growing at a rate which is outstripping the market in general and all competitors. Averaged across the region, year-on-year sales are up by over 15%, and customer count is even better – over 19%.This points to a very healthy level of design activity. Germany is the largest single contributor to European revenue numbers, but the UK, France and East European countries such as Turkey and Poland are all showing growth figures of nearly 20%. Italy is seeing strong activity in the maker market. There is frenetic activity in the IoT space – Industry 4.0, Smart Home, Connected Car, Remote Medical Diagnostics etc – but other sectors such as Lighting, Aerospace and Defence and Automotive are still important and healthy.
Mark Burr-Lonnon, the company’s Senior VP for EMEA and Asia, has a simple explanation for the company’s continuing success across all European countries and indeed, globally in the NPI space. “It’s all about inventory and logistics backed by strong marketing content. To deliver the latest technology from you need stocks of the widest possible range of parts. Let’s take Texas Instruments: we carry around 10% more part numbers - that is distinct devices – than our nearest competitor anywhere in the world, and about double that of other more traditional High Service players. Volume distributors limit their stocks to products that sell in volume for their supply chain programmes - thereby limiting their ability and frankly desire to stock the latest parts, and smaller players typically only carry a maximum of a tenth the number of different items. Mouser’s breadth of stocking is basically unbeatable on our key suppliers. ”
To support this inventory, last year Mouser opened an extension to its worldwide warehouse and this, says Graham Maggs, Mouser’s VP Marketing for Europe is now “Fully operational with more than 800,000 distinct parts in stock and available to buy”. The company is already planning another phase of expansion with more ground acquired, so that the growth can be maintained. Right now, the company holds close to $500M of inventory; at the time of the last Electronica, that figure was $300M.
Excellence in customer support is a philosophy that is the guiding principal for the entire company, driven right from the top by Mouser’s president & CEO Glenn Smith. So the company supports its excellence in inventory availability, management and distribution with targeted marketing, local staff and excellent design tools.
Mouser’s marketing activities are predicated on ensuring that it delivers material that designers find interesting, rather than bombarding them with material whether it is relevant to them or not. So the company produces targeted newsletter and broadcasts, plus it has a huge repository of white papers, application notes, articles and schematic block diagram designs, all filed under a number of applications and technologies on its website http://www.mouser.co.uk/applications/
A high percentage of Mouser’s business comes through the web, but the company also knows that sometimes engineers need to talk to people, and also that there are regional variations in business cultures and trading conditions. So the company has local offices in all key countries – nine in all in Europe – so if you want to talk to someone in your own language, pay in your own currency and in accordance with your cultural business practices, you can do so – we’d love a call to discuss your requirements and hear your feedback.
Since Electronica 2014, Mouser launched the premium version of its MultiSIM BLUE design tool. Created by National Instruments and Mouser, MultiSIM BLUE broke the mould by being the first free all-in-one circuit and PCB design tool that integrates all functions from schematic capture to BOM and purchase. MultiSIM BLUE Premium is Mouser's professional circuit design tool. It delivers unlimited components, unlimited custom components, and unlimited schematic sheets and levels, as well as fully integrated circuit design capabilities. MultiSIM BLUE Premium is four powerful circuit design tools in one - including schematic capture, Berkeley SPICE simulation, advanced PCB layout, plus BOM-to-cart functionality. Over 16,000 additional parts are included from the National Instruments Master database, combined with over 100,000 parts from the Mouser database.
Comments Burr-Lonnon: “Our business model is very stable – we are the NPI distributor and all our efforts are targeted at supporting design engineers with the latest products and technologies for their newest projects. Unlike our competitors, we have not changed our stance; instead we look to see what extra we can offer design engineers.”
With its broad product line and unsurpassed customer service, Mouser caters to design engineers and buyers by delivering What’s Next in advanced technologies.
