ECIA is pleased to announce Dave Doherty is Chairman of the ECIA Board of Directors for 2017.
"The vitality of the ECIA is as critical now as it has ever been in its history," explained Dave Doherty, President and COO of Digi-Key Electronics. "Often overlooked are ECIA’s contributions to industry standards and best practices, without which huge supply chain inefficiencies would occur for manufacturers, distributors and ultimately customers. For example, in response to our need for further tracking and traceability, standardized 2-D barcodes were developed which will allow significantly more key part information to be conveyed more effectively. The organization’s basic mission to support the authorized distribution channel has emerged as even more critical as E-Commerce blurs many traditional boundaries. As a 30-year veteran with experience as a customer, manufacturer and distributor, I am so honored to work with the ECIA Board to help shape the future of the organization.”
"Dave Doherty accepted the ECIA Chair position understanding the industry challenges that lie ahead," added ECIA President John Denslinger. "His opening remarks keyed on the Board’s executive capabilities, as well as the long history of industry optimizations from ECIA Council and Committee activity. In a major move last year, ECIA launched its global initiative on behalf of the authorized channel. Similarly, ECIA also began regional discussions towards creating a worldwide industry statistics program. As the President of a premier global company, DigiKey Electronics, Dave is the right leader at the right time to rally industry action on these and many more solutions-based programs," he concluded.
Dave Doherty took the reins as president and chief operating officer of Digi-Key Electronics effective July 1, 2015. Dave joined their executive leadership team in 2008, bringing with him more than 25-plus years of electronics industry experience split between semiconductor manufacturing and distribution. Prior to joining Digi-Key, Dave began his career in engineering with Digital Equipment Corp and held sales leadership positions with Toshiba and Exar. More recently, Dave was with Arrow Electronics serving in multiple roles from Director Technical Resources, Regional Sales VP and Vice President Semiconductor and Product Marketing. Dave holds a BSEE from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass. and an MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. Dave has served on the advisory board for the School of Professional Selling at Baylor University.
