Supplyframe announced today a definitive agreement to acquire SamacSys, the world’s leading provider of 2D and 3D CAD models for the electronics industry.
This acquisition will combine SamacSys’s libraries of schematic symbols, PCB footprints and component 3D models with Supplyframe’s global offering in engineering resources such as component search engines, supply chain software tools and online communities.
“Our vision has always been rooted in helping people in the electronics industry navigate the complexity of going from an idea to a production-ready product. For over a decade, we have been focused on organizing the world of engineering knowledge and delivering the right piece of information — whether it be a CAD model, a datasheet or a critical market insight — to our users when they need it the most. Welcoming SamacSys under the Supplyframe banner allows us to provide best-in-class symbols, footprints and 3D models directly to our community of 7 million engineers. In times like these when the industry is facing very challenging market conditions, we believe it’s more important than ever to focus on the needs of our customers and to help them save time and money,” said Steve Flagg, CEO and founder of Supplyframe.
Alex MacDougall, founder and CEO of SamacSys, commented, “Our service is contagious! Engineers all over the globe are using it for the simple fact it allows them to spend more time engineering rather than creating component libraries. When Supplyframe approached us and demonstrated their reach, I was certain we could scale our product even faster to help more engineers. Supplyframe is the perfect home for SamacSys because Supplyframe is agnostic, independent, and neutral; all perfect ingredients for fast growth and further adoption of our solution.”
Under the terms of the agreement, all London-based SamacSys employees and its founder will join Supplyframe, expanding its global footprint even further with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Shanghai, Austin, Grenoble, and Belgrade. “I am very excited that Alex decided to stay on and help lead these efforts,'' added Steve Flagg.
