As part of its mission to empower, inform and connect professionals within the underserved global electronics purchasing and supply chain community, Electronics Purchasing Strategies (EPS) magazine, carried out by Beacon Technology Partners, administered the first purchasing survey since the demise of Purchasing magazine four years ago. The survey provides a look at demographics, roles, skills and challenges for buyers of interconnect, passive and electromechanical components, power devices and semiconductors.

For example, the survey finds the average purchasing professional is a 49-year-old male college graduate with 17 years of experience. Seventy-three percent of purchasing professionals who responded are very experienced in establishing and maintaining vendor relationships and 60 percent recommend new products and technologies during product development. Many have engineering backgrounds. All use vendor web sites to research, compare and buy.
